Tianzhong Zhushan Route

The “Tianzhong Zhushan Route” operates between Tianzhong, Ershui, and Zhushan Townships. Along the way, it passes through Tianzhong Railway Station, Babao Irrigation Canal, Zhushan Zinan Temple, and Zhushan Old Street, offering views of Taiwan's rice paddies and railway landscapes. This route also allows participation in festivals and events such as the Tianzhong Marathon, Ershui International Water Running Festival, Zinan Temple Spring Walk, and Zhushan Bamboo Lantern Festival.

The “Tianzhong Zhushan Route” can be accessed from the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Changhua Station, providing convenient access for travelers from all over Taiwan to experience a journey rich in festive cultural characteristics.

In Mandarin, the route is named 跑水求財線(Water running & Fortune seeking).

During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty,  the canal’s chief architect, Chief Reclaimer Shih-Pang Shih, faced numerous obstacles during the planning phase. However, an elderly man who went by the name of Mr. Lin intervened and provided guidance on how to redirect the water. Mr. Lin disappeared without a trace after the construction was completed. In Babao, it has become a tradition for later generations to set up an incense table annually to offer sacrifices. They also send skilled men to release the water gate. These men wear straw raincoats and carry fruits tributes on their heads. They release the water at an auspicious time and the water runners rush out before the water catches up. This process is called “water running,” and its objective is to stay ahead of the running water.

During the Spring Festival, even more crowds of believers come to pray for auspicious fortune. When a believer casts the divination blocks and receives the answer of “Shing-Bwei” (or “yes”), the believer can borrow fortune money from the Tudigong. The golden hen in the temple is also the mascot of the Zhushan Zi Nan Temple.
